2014 Rainbow Gala raised $1.8 million
It was a spectacular night on Saturday, April 12th, when more than 700 guests gathered at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh Hotel for the 22nd Annual JDRF Rainbow Gala. The 2014 Gala Honoree, Arthur J. Rooney, II, President of the Pittsburgh Steelers, joined forces with Corporate Chairmen, Leo W. Gerard, International President, United Steelworkers and David J. Malone, President & CEO, Gateway Financial to help raise $1.8 million for JDRF.
Guests had the opportunity to bid on one-of-a-kind live auction items, including a Goodyear Blimp ride, a photo of the Pittsburgh skyline from World Diabetes Day when many buildings were transformed to “JDRF Blue” to commemorate the day and a Pittsburgh Pirates luxury suite for 15 people with the opportunity to watch Neil Walker during batting practice. Several of our youth ambassadors created a glass mosaic of the Pittsburgh skyline from within Heinz Field. This item was the highlight of the live auction raising $22,000!
The evening concluded with a passionate Fund A Cure presentation given by JDRF volunteers each sharing their own reason why they support JDRF. It was an emotional appeal that raised a total of $717,000 to fund T1D research. All Fund A Cure donations are 100 percent tax-deductible and go directly to support diabetes research.
The 2014 Rainbow Gala was chaired by Maria Metro and Cindy Paul who, along with co-chairs Susan Phillips and Cheryl Talerico and a very active committee, worked for months to create this spectacular evening. Nancy Glynn served as the procurement chair and assembled over 300 silent auction packages. Dave Sharick headed up the development committee, who worked tirelessly to secure corporate partners who filled the ballroom with friends and supporters.
Guests are eager to honor Morgan O’Brien,CEO and President of Peoples Natural Gas Company, LLC on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh Hotel.
